The North Texas football program is remembering a former player, Mike Hickmon, who was killed at his son’s youth football game.

The brother of former NFL cornerback Aqib Talib is wanted as the suspect in a murder in a Dallas suburb that followed an altercation at the end of a youth football game Saturday night, USA Today reported.

The Lancaster (Texas) Police Department issued a press release stating that they dispatched officers to Lancaster Community Park Saturday night at 8:50 p.m. Upon arrival, officers were told of a disagreement that had taken place between the coaching staff and officiating crew of a game that had taken place at the park.

The Lancaster police department issued the following report to 9NEWS:

“Upon arrival, officers were notified of a disagreement among coaching staff and the officiating crew.

“During the disagreement the opposing coaching staff were involved in a physical altercation and one of the individuals involved in the altercation discharged a firearm striking one adult male. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced deceased.”

Hickmon played for the Mean Green from 1998-2002 when he was known among teammates as a calming influence at a key time in program history, the Denton Record-Chronicle reported.
