USC quarterback Caleb Williams was awarded the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night.

College football analyst Greg McElroy thinks there are issues with the Heisman Trophy that need to be examined, and he outlined those issues Monday on ESPN’s “Always College Football.”

“I have four simple ways that we can figure out and fix the issue that currently surrounds the Heisman Trophy,” McElroy said.

Among his concerns were the number of voters involved and the regional system used in the voting process, the latter of which he called “antiquated” and “archaic.”

McElroy would also like to see the ballot expanded and believes the award should be given out based less on team success.

“The only guys that seem to be eligible right now for the Heisman Trophy are the guys that are currently in the Playoff hunt,” McElroy said. “Let’s spread the love, man. There’s great football being played everywhere. And if your team’s not necessarily in the Playoff, it doesn’t mean you’re not the most outstanding player in college football.”
