Heisman Trophy watch: Robert Griffin III has 2 SEC stars on his top 5 contenders list
Former Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III has been keeping a close watch on the 2021 Hesiman race.
After each week of the season, the former Baylor standout has tweeted his top 5 contenders to win the award in December.
Given that it’s been a volatile season on the field, it’s no surprise that there has been a lot of movement on Griffin’s watch list from week to week.
Alabama quarterback Bryce Young had been Griffin’s favorite at one point, but after the Crimson Tide’s loss to Texas A&M on Saturday, Young fell out of the top 5.
There are 2 SEC players on the list, however, including Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral at No. 3.
The highest ranked SEC player might come as a surprise, however, as it’s Georgia defensive lineman Jordan Davis, who continues to create havoc in the trenches for Bulldogs’ opponents.
As for who is at the top of Griffin’s list right now, it’s Michigan State running back Kenneth Walker III, who’s rushed for 912 yards and 9 touchdowns for the 6-0 Spartans.
Rounding out Griffin’s list after Week 6 are Pittsburgh quarterback Kenny Pickett and Texas running back Bijan Robinson.
