The interception of the year race appears to be over before Week 1 of the 2024 college football season has reached its conclusion.

Robert Morris DB Rob Carter Jr. is the early leader for interception of the year. Robert Morris, an FCS program, faced Utah State on Saturday. It was in the second quarter when Utah State QB Bryson Barnes threw the pass that would become the pick of the year.

Carter’s interception has to be seen to be believed. His 1-handed grab has drawn some comparisons to Odell Beckham Jr.’s famous catch.

As one might expect, the game’s announcers were in awe as the play happened live.

ESPN’s SportsCenter confirmed that Carter made the best play of the day, giving him No. 1 on the daily top 10.

A native of Danville, Virginia, Carter is listed at 5-10, 175 pounds. He began his career at UVA Wise (University of Virginia’s College at Wise) in 2021. He joined Robert Morris in 2023.

It’s going to be hard for Carter, or anyone else, to top Saturday’s sensational interception.
