Not quite: Kent State trick play fails miserably against Bowling Green
Creativity in the red zone can be highly effective if the play is executed properly. On the flip side, there’s epic fails from trying to get too cute.
Kent State fell into the latter category on Wednesday night against host Bowling Green.
On 3rd-and-8 from the 13-yard-line, Golden Flashes quarterback Collin Schlee runs up to the line of scrimmage and pretends he’s snapping the ball. However, he then pretends to walk off the field and Marquez Cooper took a direct snap for a marginal run.

Kent State entered the contest at 3-6 overall and 2-3 in the MAC, so a sense of urgency to win out for a bowl bid could explain the unorthodox play call.
Kent State has yet to win back-to-back games this season and the most points they’ve scored was in a 33-27 victory against Akron on Oct. 22. Kent State closes out the regular season with matchups at home against Eastern Michigan and on the road vs. Buffalo.
