Old Dominion head coach trolls Virginia Tech on social media after upset win
Old Dominion pulled off a Friday night upset, defeating Virginia Tech 20-17 at home. Monarchs head coach Ricky Rahne made sure to rub it in on social media.
Earlier in the week, Virginia Tech posted an “our state” graphic showing the “The Market” in Norfolk, Virginia, the city where ODU is located. Rahne quote-tweeted the post late Friday night adding a Michael Jordan shrugging GIF.

Old Dominion over Virginia Tech might sound like a bigger upset than it is. Before kickoff, the spread was down to 6 points in favor of the Hokies. Both teams finished 6-7 last year after losing their bowl games.
ODU has VT’s number, as Friday was the second time in 4 years that the Monarchs have upset the Hokies. Old Dominion also won 49-35 in 2018.
Old Dominion, a Conference USA program, kicked off Rahne’s second season. Virginia Tech opened the Brent Pry era 0-1.
