There is another head coaching vacancy in the Power 5.

Herm Edwards is out as Arizona State’s head coach, the program announced Sunday.

Edwards’ dismissal comes hours after ASU’s home loss to Eastern Michigan 30-21 on Saturday, dropping the Sun Devils to 1-2 in 2022. Former Florida QB Emory Jones was 20-of-32 passing for 182 yards and a touchdown, along with a rushing TD for ASU in the loss.

Edwards had been the Sun Devils’ head coach since the 2018 season. Arizona State went 26-20 in Edwards’ tenure.

ASU’s best record under Edwards was 8-5, posted in the 2019 and 2021 seasons. The Sun Devils were 1-2 in bowl games during Edwards’ tenure, winning the Sun Bowl in 2019 and dropping the Las Vegas Bowl in 2018 and 2021.

Edwards played in the NFL from 1977-to-1986 before getting into coaching as defensive backs coach at San Jose State in 1987. Edwards was an assistant and head coach in the NFL from 1992-to-2008.
