Referee entered stands to scold band during game

Referees have a lot to control during a college football game. It isn’t just players and coaches. Fans and even members of the band have to follow rules set by officials.

One referee took an unusual tactic on Saturday night during the UNLV-Air Force game, heading into the stands to scold the band.

As you can see below, the ref had to climb into the stands to tell the band directors to stop playing when Air Force had the ball:

Normally, a referee would just use the microphone to do that, so perhaps this official’s mic wasn’t working? Or, maybe, he felt a more private conversation was warranted.

Either way, the announcers said they’d never seen anything like it, and neither have we.
