Every 1,000-Yard Rusher in LSU Football History
By Chris Wright
Last Updated:
Fair question: Who is the greatest running back in LSU football history?
At some schools, the answer is automatic. Herschel Walker (Georgia), Bo Jackson (Auburn), Emmitt Smith (Florida), Darren McFadden (Arkansas), Earl Campbell (Texas), Adrian Peterson (Oklahoma), etc.
It’s a bit more complicated at LSU, which has produced 22 1,000-yard seasons entering the 2025 season and has 4 running backs who topped 3,800 yards in their career.
LSU’s 1,000-Yard Rushers
Even if you have Kevin Faulk as the greatest running back in LSU football history, he’s still the most underappreciated in SEC history. Faulk not only is LSU’s career rushing yards leader (4,557), he was the first Tiger to record 3 1,000-yard seasons. In 2023, Heisman winner Jayden Daniels became the first LSU QB to join the 1,000-yard club.
LSU’s Single-Season Rushing Record Progression
Terry Robiskie was the first Tiger to rush for 1,000 yards, but he didn’t stay at No. 1 long. Here’s every single-season rushing yards record-holder at LSU since (bold indicates year the record was set):
Years at No. 1 | Player | Yards |
---|---|---|
2015-present | Leonard Fournette | 1,953 |
1977-2015 | Charles Alexander | 1,686 |
1976-1977 | Terry Robiskie | 1,117 |
