The streak is over: 1 state has no teams ranked in AP Top 25 for first time in 10 years
It’s been a bit of a rough college football year for Florida.
The state’s 3 major FBS programs have disappointed in 2021. Miami was expected to have D’Eriq King helm its offense, but currently sit at 2-4 while seeing King lost to a shoulder injury. Florida State is also 2-4, and that includes a loss to FCS Jacksonville State despite the Seminoles winning their last 2 games. Florida, with Kyle Trask and Kyle Pitts gone, have underachieved as it’s currently sitting at 4-3 following a loss to LSU.
That loss saw the Gators drop out of the AP Top 25. And as a result, FOX Sports notes that the state of Florida currently has no ranked teams, the first time that’s happened since November 2011.
As for the state’s other FBS teams, Florida Atlantic is at 3-3, while FIU and South Florida have identical 1-5 marks. Meanwhile, UCF is 3-3 in former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn’s debut season in Orlando.
