While a lot of people are weighing in about who should get the USC job, ESPN commentator Paul Finebaum has a suggestion of who he thinks is the perfect fit: Penn State head coach James Franklin or Mario Cristobal of Oregon.

During a segment on ESPN Radio, Keyshawn Johnson, who is a USC alum, asked Finebaum why he said this:

“Someone like James Franklin of Penn State is the first name that comes to mind, he’s very charismatic,” Finebaum said. “He was unbelievably successful at Vanderbilt. He’s had really good success at Penn State. After James Franklin, the most obvious choice is the hottest coach in the country today and that’s Mario Cristobal.”

Finebaum thinks that the coach who takes the SC job needs to “commends attention and respect” and Finebaum thinks those 2 coaches can do that.

The question with Cristobal is whether or not he wants to make that move South, according to Finebaum.

Finebaum thinks that Luke Fickell of Cincinnati is a great coach, he doesn’t think he’d fit in at USC.

“You can’t just take a successful coach in the Midwest and make him work in Southern California.”
