Travis Hunter will be out for at least two weeks after he was taken from the stadium to a local hospital Saturday night during Colorado’s 43-35 win over Colorado State.

The star wideout/defensive back for the Buffaloes was the recipient of a nasty hit to the midsection in the first quarter of CU’s Week 3 game. He would stay in the game through the end of the first half, but Hunter was later ruled out and was taken to a local hospital in Boulder for further evaluation.

“The first thing I heard is that he would be out for a few weeks,” CU head coach Deion Sanders said after the game. “I heard that for sure. But we’re gonna do what we gotta do to take care of him. I know Travis probably will want to be out for two weeks, but we got to make sure he is okay. His health is more important than this game.”

The hit in question came in the first quarter, when Hunter and the Buffs were on offense. Quarterback Shedeur Sanders tried to link up with hunter down the left sideline, but sailed a pass out of bounds. With the ball already bouncing on the field several yards away from Hunter, Blackburn drilled Hunter in the midsection.

The incident drew a flag with Sanders running to the defense of Hunter and exchanging words with Blackburn. The defensive back for the Rams was not ejected.

Hunter has been a crucial piece for the Buffs this year. He plays both ways — at wideout on offense and at defensive back on the other side. In the opener against TCU, he became the first FBS player in two decades to have 100 yards and an interception in the same game.

Last week against Nebraska, he played 68 snaps on offense and 57 snaps on defense. Before exiting Saturday’s win, he had two catches for 21 yards and two tackles.

Colorado (3-0) faces Oregon (3-0) on the road next Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
