Brenton Cox appears to have beat the odds.

Cox was not selected in the 2023 NFL Draft but signed with the Green Bay Packers as a free agent in May. Word out of Green Bay is that Cox will make the team’s 53-man roster, an impressive feat for an undrafted rookie.

Talent has never been a question with Cox. Out of Stockbridge (Georgia), Cox was rated 5-stars and the No. 23 overall recruit in the Class of 2018 on the 247Sports Composite. He signed with Georgia but was dismissed from Kirby Smart’s team in 2019.

Cox transferred to Florida before the 2019 season. The NCAA denied him a waiver for immediate eligibility and he sat out. Cox remained at Florida through 2022, playing only 8 games in his final season before he was kicked off the team by Billy Napier.

The Packers offered Cox a clean slate, and he has reportedly impressed coaches with his work ethic this offseason.

At UF, Cox played in 29 games over 3 seasons. He registered 100 total tackles, including 28.5 for loss with 12.5 sacks. Cox also logged 5 career pass breakups, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery at Florida.

Green Bay opens the 2023 season at Soldier Field against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 10.
