The talk after Saturday’s Florida Gators game was not the final score, which was 35-14 over Florida Atlantic, but who should be the starting quarterback going forward with this team.

Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic of “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” on WJOX out of Birmingham, Alabama shared their thoughts on the situation on their morning show about who they think should be starting for the Gators and it might surprise fans.

Although both praised Gators starting quarterback Emory Jones, Cubelic said he thinks they cannot beat their two biggest opponents on their schedule, Georgia and Alabama, with him and thinks his backup, Anthony Richardson, should start.

“I do not think Florida can beat Alabama with Emory Jones,” Cubelic said. “Florida has a better chance of beating Alabama with Richardson in the game.”

The talk begins about the 28:00 mark of the show clip.

McElroy disagreed saying he doesn’t think it’s time to replace Jones, but he does think Richardson needs more playing time in the future.

In the game against FAU, Jones just threw for 113 yards and 1 touchdown, but threw 2 picks. Richardson passed for 40 yards but he ran for 160 yards and 1 touchdown.

Mullen told Cubelic after the game on the SEC Network that Jones is the starter.
