Dan Mullen comments on Florida's halftime lead against LSU
We got a close one at halftime down in Gainesville as LSU and Florida are in the midst of a heated battle as the Gators head to the locker room up 14-10.
Florida has a total of 185 yards at halftime, with 115 coming on the ground. The Gator defense forced a rare turnover on a strip sack of LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, which was only the fourth turnover by the Tigers this season. The Gators did give up 12 first downs, while LSU only gave up eight in the first half, but that has been enough for Dan Mullen’s team to jump out to a lead at the break.
Here’s what Mullen had to say regarding Florida’s final scoring drive, which occurred just before halftime.
“(Feleipe Franks) just executed cleaner, getting more comfortable with the looks they are giving us,” Mullen said. “They are giving us different looks, which we knew they would coming in, they weren’t going to do what they did to us last year. So we knew they would be giving different looks and he’s getting more comfortable, making the adjustments.”
Franks was six of 12 for 70 yards and a single score in the first half.
Mullen added these comments when asked about Franks’ toughness in the game.
“Well, it’s good in the pocket, he’s doing a good job of hanging in there,” Mullen noted. “He’s got to be a little more physical running the football, get us first downs on third down, second down situations and scrambles. That will come and that will keep everyone pumped up here with this unbelievable crowd tonight.”
