Dan Mullen discusses Florida's 2-for-1 non-conference offer to UCF
The UCF Knights have gone undefeated the past two regular seasons and are feeling good about their place in the college football world.
However, the Knights won’t make the College Football Playoff until they have a stronger strength of schedule, and because Power 5 teams know that, UCF has no leverage.
That hasn’t stopped UCF AD Danny White from calling it unfair, but the Florida Gators have offered the Knights a two-for-one non-conference deal — two games at The Swamp in exchange for one in Orlando. White balked at the idea, but even Florida coach Dan Mullen thinks it would be a good thing for the Knights to consider:
Mullen: I think we offered (UCF) a 2-for-1, like we do for most schools in their position.
Mullen says it'd be a big deal for #UCF, to have an SEC school come play at their place.
"If they want to try to toughen their schedule…" Mullen says— Matt Baker (@MBakerTBTimes) December 14, 2018
The Knights are going to have to give something up in order to improve their strength of schedule (they can start by dropping games against FCS foes).
The Gators know that, so don’t expect them to budge on their offer.
