Florida has had some difficulty figuring out its quarterback situation this season, with Feleipe Franks briefly giving way to backup Kyle Trask and even some fans clamoring for true freshman Emory Jones.

Fortunately for Gators fans, coach Dan Mullen made sure to add more talent to the position heading into next season.

Mullen praised the ability of 4-star quarterback signee Jalon Jones, who had been committed to Florida since April. The dual-threat signal-caller out of Richmond, Virginia, seems to fit the mold of a Mullen quarterback, as the coach explained to reporters Wednesday.

“He’s a guy I’ve known for quite a while,” Mullen said. “He’s a very athletic, got great size, he’s a guy that is always worked very hard at the discipline part of it, being a quarterback. What I mean by the technique and fundamentals and always improving himself — he’s one of those guys that’s kind of fun. He works hard to play the position, technically at a high level but he has the athleticism and skill to improvise and make plays on his own.”

Jones certainly did that during his junior season at St. Francis High School in Baltimore, Maryland, where he threw for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns while rushing for 918 yards and an additional nine scores. After leading St. Francis to a No. 4 national ranking, Jones returned to Henrico High School in Richmond for his senior season.

According to 247Sports.com’s composite ratings, Jones is the No. 11 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2019. He’s also the eighth-best prospect from Virginia and the No. 312 overall player among this year’s crop of recruits.

But more importantly, he adds a dynamic skillset to a position that Mullen must stabilize moving forward.
