Dan Mullen happy with win, addresses Florida's 'ho-hum' performance at Vanderbilt
It wasn’t pretty at times, but the Florida Gators improved to 6-1 on the season with a 38-17 win at Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon.
The Commodores scored 10 first-quarter points, which was more than they had scored in any first quarter all season, but Florida got it together defensively and only allowed 7 points in the final 3 quarters.
After the game, coach Dan Mullen addressed some concerns on both sides of the ball. Here’s what he had to say in his postgame press conference:
On a win being a win, no matter how ugly:
'I have a smile on my face. You never take a win for granted. I'm fired up,' Dan Mullen said. 'We stubbed our toe along the way and still come out with a 21-point victory.'

Mullen on today's game: "I think it was just kind of a really ho-hum performance by us, if that's the best way to put it."

On inconsistencies and breakdowns on both sides of the ball:
'We had breakdowns on both sides of the ball that were at times disappointing,' Dam Mullen said.

Mullen: "Everything is a concern for me. The offensive breakdowns. The defensive breakdowns. We gotta go coach them up and get them fixed."

Mullen on missed tackles: "There were but then at times there weren't. It was kind of that way all day offensively and defensively. Good then bad, good then bad."

On using younger players to get more experience and depth:
Mullen asked if there was a concerted effort to get young guys in… he says they want to do it all the time, says he got on the defensive staff to get more young guys in to build depth and experience. "I think that's something I'll address."

The Gators host Kentucky next weekend in an important game on the road to Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game. We’ll see if they can fix their issues in a week’s time.
