The SEC East figures to be a tough division to win in 2020, with both the Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators vying for the title and teams like Tennessee lurking a tier below.

So, who is the favorite to win the division and advance to the SEC Championship in Atlanta? CBS Sports analyst Danny Kanell was asked that question recently.

As you can see below, the former FSU quarterback chose the Seminoles’ rivals, Florida, to win the division. Here’s how he explained his choice:

“The Florida Gators are the team to beat in the SEC East,” Kanell says. “I think this is the year they take that big step. I think this is the year they win the division. They’ve got an outstanding quarterback in Kyle Trask, who not enough people talked about this past season and the success he had with Dan Mullen. Dan Mullen is a quarterback guru. He finds talent and he develops it. Plus, you add in the wrinkle with Emory Jones, who comes in and gives you a little bit of a run threat.

“Florida is going to be better defensively. They have one of the best defensive coordinators in the country. But it will come down to that Georgia game, although I think too many people are plugging in Jamie Newman — the transfer from Wake Forest to Georgia — and assuming it’s going to work. I need to see it.

“Georgia has a bunch of issues across the offensive line that they need to fix. I don’t know if Jamie Newman is going to be the next coming of Joe Burrow, but I’d bet against it, considering the standard Burrow set.”

Will the Gators live up to Kanell’s expectations? Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough.
