The Arizona Cardinals picked Florida DB Marco Wilson in the fourth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, and everyone on Twitter was quick to remember his infamous shoe-tossing incident.

But ESPN’s Todd McShay argued that it wasn’t as bad as it appeared on television. McShay, who was ESPN’s sideline reporter at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium that night, said the fog played a factor.

“I was there that night and that’s what everyone wants to talk about with Marco Wilson,” McShay said on ESPN on Saturday. “I can tell you in the fog it was tough to see. The cleat came up and yeah he shouldn’t have thrown it, but it wasn’t as flagrant as everyone wants to say. It was just unfortunate.

“What I can also tell you is he was the best defensive player on the field that night. He was taking all the LSU wide receivers out of the game. He’s really good in terms of versatility and his ability to play inside and outside. He’s one of the only guys that started as a freshman corner at Florid and that’s a big deal.”

Regardless of the weather conditions, the shoe toss kept Florida’s defense on the field late in the fourth quarter and allowed LSU to eventually kick a game-winning field goal.

However, Wilson has impressed NFL teams throughout the pre-draft process and could be a steal for Arizona in the fourth round. He finished his Florida career with three interceptions and 17 pass deflections.
