Evan McPherson added to his solid start of a rookie season with a clutch 35-yard field goal to lift the Cincinnati Bengals over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night, 24-21.
Former LSU star Joe Burrow powered 4 second-half scoring drives while passing for 348 yards and 2 touchdowns and the Bengals overcame a 14-0 halftime deficit to beat former Florida and Ohio State coach Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Evan McPherson, a rookie from Florida, capped the 10-play, 73-yard drive that drained more than 5 minutes off the clock. McPherson also had a clutch kick when the Bengals beat the Minnesota Vikings earlier this season.
It spoiled what began as a positive homecoming for Meyer, in a battle between quarterbacks who were picked No. 1 overall the last 2 years. Meyer grew up in northeastern Ohio, played safety at the University of Cincinnati and won the 2014 national championship coaching at Ohio State. But in the end, he left the field with his head down.
