Florida analyst expected to be named OLB coach at C-USA program
Florida analyst Jamar Chaney is expected to be named the next outside linebackers coach at Western Kentucky. Chaney, who coached and played at Mississippi State before joining the Florida coaching staff in 2021.
His official title was defensive analyst at Florida. With Mississippi State, Chaney was the Bulldogs’ senior defensive analyst. He also had a stint as Florida’s assistant director of player personnel in 2019.

Prior to coaching, Chaney was a middle linebacker for Mississippi State. He was taken in the 7th round of the 2010 NFL Draft, playing for 4 years in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders. Across those 4 years in the NFL, he totaled 163 tackles, 1 forced fumble, 1 sack and 3 interceptions.
Congrats to Jamar Chaney. Well deserved step up.
Tough loss for the Gator recruiting staff. Chaney is an excellent recruiter and a class act. He’ll be missed.
Agreed! Definitely a class act. It’s a loss for the Gators but I’m glad he’s getting a promotion, I hope he has a lot of success!
You guys going to the Orange & Blue game?
Only 4 hours down the road, I’ll come if those guys won’t, Doc. I’d hate for the attendance to be 1…we can do that gatorbait chompy chant thingy the prez ordered banned…let’s do it! My favorite parts…
Cause the Florida Georgia girls bring out the best in me…..
You better move Georgia – You better wait Auburn
You better pause or you’ll be …….say it with me DOC….G8R B8!!!!
We’ll show em Doc, take that ban and shove it Dr. FUCHS!
We were wanting to go, Doc, but with having school aged children Thursday nights are hard. We’ll definitely be watching on TV though. :)
Sorry to hear but understand – StL, Nash and I were hoping to meet up with y’all if so. Tell Leghumper it’s only 4 hours UP the road!
Tell Doc the world is round and the universe is infinite (so far). Up and down are relative to the individual, hence the depths of hail, planted 6 feet under, oh, and ascending up into the heavens…
Deep thoughts from a Leghumper!
According to Einstein, up or down is relative. Still, it’s only 4 hrs drive and we’d all enjoy the annoying perspective of a nice Dawg at The Swamp.
Now, heel boy!!!
LOL…ok then, I’m hungry…
Apparently Leghumper has never adjusted redleg indirect fires using a 1:10000K grid map.
It would be great to meet up sometime! Maybe next year it’ll be on a Saturday, or if you all go to a home game during the season we could make the 1.5 hour drive and visit the old stomping grounds. :)
I’d love that GFA, but it will have to depend on the travel schedules of my pals Nash and StL. See, I’m old, feeble, and half insane – left to my own devices, I’d probably intend to go to Hogtown but instead wind-up wandering around the I-75 truck stop trying to pick up turds by the clean end unless they were clearly marked with glitter spray. (:
LMAO!! :D we couldn’t have that, then Tdow wouldn’t have anything to do ;)
Aw, prairie shyt …. Leghumper too.
Emilio, when you and Nash decide on a meeting place/time for the 13th, pass it on to him.
Another rat jumping ship is my take on this. What say you
“Come on man don’t stoop to the level of a Georgia Moron!”
LMAO!!! ;D
Dang!
you getting real good at this
Hey, I’ve been taking notes from some of the masters: Doc, Truth and you! ;)
All I can think of is
MEEEERTZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL! Just between you and me, I have a sneaking suspicion you’re gonna get a LOT of mileage out of that one!
Rumor has it the poor guy got bypassed and felt slighted when CBN decided to give Raymond some of former Coach Toney’s secondary duties so went job searching elsewhere. Any truth to that? Where’s Mr. Truth when you need him!!!
Anything’s conceivable, but the guy’s a LB coach. Coaching safeties might be just a bit outside his zone of expertise.
Has Kirby allowed “RaRa” back on the team yet? How’s it going with Stetson being in a diversion program for drunkerds? I bet that NC t-shirt (with the puke stains) he wears to class looks really great.
We seem to forget that coaching is essentially a mercenary occupation, and that coaches move around all the time for better opportunities, better pay, or better anything. It’s not sinister on anybody’s part, it’s just bidness. We used to call that ‘resume building’ before we assigned nefarious motives to everything and anything – particularly for the purpose of ridiculing a rival team. It’s a strange, strange world we live in, Captain Jack.
Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island
Captain Jack will get you by tonight
Just a little push, and you’ll be smilin’
Oh, yeah
Hey Hey Captin’ Jack,
Meet me down by the railhead track.
With my rifle in my hand,
I’m gonna be a fightin’ man.
A fightin’ man, a fightin’ man…..

Never mind the guy is and has always been coaching LBs and that’s what he will be doing in his new gig. Never mind any of that, according to the foremost expert on everything Gator the guy was upset that he wasn’t named safeties coach
Speaking of, palley, What did some rats say to some other rats?
They said, he’s a great recruiter, they said, he’s a classy guy, they said he’ll be missed…oh, and they forgot to say this is the same clown that got denied entrance into UGa because he had someone else take his SAT…this is the same clown that had a short career as a HS HBC because of questionable things, to put it nicely…the same clown that was given a senior advisory position at UF and then bailed to Ms St for a similar offer only to jump ship and run back to UF. I was simply hoping one of you guys had your morning reality drink and would call it like it was, but once again, mee favorite fan base proving once again the DeNile ain’t just a river in Egypt…
Cojones, sandwiched between this and that, point proven.
To the actual point you made, though, it could be. If a guy doesn’t see an upward ladder where he currently stands, it makes sense to look for one elsewhere.
Doc you are always in the know. I may add as long as a guy doesn’t step under the ladder he should be OK
Or trip over a black cat!
Upcoming post from TDOW (aka AR’s SIL): Rats jumping from the ship.
What a dork.
You should add…The over and under, he’ll be at WKU less than 2 years
I’d expect nothing longer than two years at WKU and wouldn’t be surprised to see him back in Hogtown sooner than that IF one of our LB coach “rats” gets plucked out of our “ship” by the NFL in the next two years.
I hear you Stl…I imagine CBN will have his hands full trying to keep all those NFL GMs and HBCs off of his ship. I’m surprised Bellychick didn’t steal this guy Chaney from CBN before WKU did, they are known to love coaches that are experts at cheating…
Leghumper, do you know him personally? I like to give people the benefit of doubt if they seem to be learning from his mistakes, which from what I have read he seems to be. If he hasn’t, that’s too bad, but if he has, I’m glad that he is on the right path. I have met several people who have changed their lives after big mistakes by the grace of G_d and it’s wonderful to see.
Called ‘profiting from experience’, but to a Georgia fan that’s not something any Gator is capable of.
The real shame is that you had to work around using G*d’s name – speaks volumes about where we’re at, leagues beyond just annoying trolls.
Fair enough GFA, no I don’t know him personally and perhaps he will pan out as a decent coach and more importantly, a decent person, he seems to be heading down the road to success on the second part. All I do know is that he left Fort Pierce and has hopscotched back and forth every year since, and that he was quoted as saying “I like learning as much as I can from the defensive coordinator, Todd Grantham…”
Doc, I agree, mentioning Him and His Son, it’s a shame.
Leghumper, if he learns to forget what he’s learned from Grantham he’ll be far ahead :)
Well thankfully Siddhartha Gautama and Muhammidd an-Nabi are ok to mention, this site wouldn’t want to come across as biased against certain sects of faith, don’t you know…at least we are free to do that G8rB8t chanty thingy in the swamp thank goodness…
Humper, since this thread has moved on into the theological sphere, allow me to point out that the faith our SDS moderators (with bad teeth) shall not allow to be mentioned here (without twisting the spelling,) places great importance on forgiveness and second chances.
If you “forgive” what Chaney may have done prior to being hired by Mullen to an off-the-field position in 2018, the rest of his career path to date is reasonably explainable. He was promoted to position coach at MSU by Joe Moorehead in 2019. He was fired by Mike Leach in 2020, along with the rest of Joe’s staff. He was then rehired by Mullen to an off-the-field position in 2021 AND retained by Napier after Mullen was fired. Now, he’s been promoted again to position coach at WKU.
That’s five years of exemplary behavior, but we all know humans are weak. So, regression is always a possibility.
Redemption is at hand, really very simple.
Well thought out post, bud.
My advice to the young man now is, “Run hard and don’t look back. Something bad may be trying to catch up to you!”
Great post StL!
