Florida made some news Friday announcing a new six-year contract for head football coach Jim McElwain. The deal is worth $26.9 million and will go through the 2022 season. The school also announced an extension and raise for basketball coach Mike White.

Following the announcement, Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin released the following statement regarding the school’s decision to hand out the new contracts.

“Both Coach Mac and Coach White have done a phenomenal job of leading our programs and we are looking forward to having them lead the Gators for years to come. As much as both have won games and provided a lot of great memories for our fans and stability for the programs they leads, they have both had a huge impact on the development and personal growth of the athletes they coach.”

McElwain has a combined 19-8 record after two seasons in Gainesville along with two SEC East division titles. His record in the Swamp is 11-1, which is of note considering the Gators are set to host seven games in 2017.

The Gator coach has now received an extension following both his seasons leading Florida. His average compensation goes from $4.48 million following this deal; it had been $4.16 under his previous deal. McElwain will also have the potential to earn up to $825,000 in bonus pay.
