Florida answered the bell on Saturday at The Swamp, then answered LSU’s troll of its treasured Tom Petty tradition with a reminder for the Tigers after its 27-16 upset victory.

Two years ago in Gainesville, LSU was having all the fun at Florida’s expense. The day after its 45-35 victory, the Tigers decided a road win over an SEC rival wasn’t enough. So, they rubbed it in a little (or a lot), trolling a beautiful tradition that the Gators launched in 2017 after Petty’s passing where they play “I Won’t Back Down” during the break in between the third and fourth quarters.

Well, what goes around comes around, as the saying goes, so 2 years later, Florida had a chance for a little revenge troll after it sent LSU to its 3rd straight loss on Saturday. On Saturday night, UF football’s social media account tweeted out a highlight montage of the Gators’ victory, with Petty’s song playing as background music while Brian Kelly can also be heard lecturing his team about knowing the song’s words so they can be the ones singing it in the 4th quarter on the way to a win, which is exactly what happened in 2022.

Not 2 years later though, and UF’s tweet was simple and direct: “Still remember the words, Coach?”

Saturday wasn’t nearly as much fun for Kelly and LSU as it was a few years earlier. This time, the Gators answered, in every way possible.
