Florida clinches top-4 seed in SEC Tournament, routs red-hot Kentucky in Gainesville

Though an SEC title is on the line between Auburn and Tennessee, Saturday’s game between Florida and Kentucky was important for other reasons.
The winner was assured a double-bye in the SEC Tournament, and the Gators clearly wanted it, as they dominated the game from the opening tipoff, putting a halt to Kentucky’s four-game winning streak with a huge 80-67 victory.
G Jalen Hudson led the Gators with 22 points, while Egor Koulechov chipped in with 16 in the big win.
In addition to Hudson’s big day, Florida PG Chris Chiozza set the school’s all-time assists record, recording his 548th assist in the first half.
For Kentucky, G Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way, scoring 17 points in the loss. Star F Kevin Knox added 14 in the losing effort.
Now, if the Wildcats want to have a double-bye in St. Louis next week, they’ll need some help from the Missouri Tigers, who host Arkansas on Saturday evening.
A win by Mizzou would put Kentucky in the No. 4 spot, while a win by the Hogs would force Kentucky to play on day two of the conference tournament.
