Florida couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start in the Cotton Bowl

With all the opt-outs and COVID-19 absences on both sides of the ball, we knew winning the Cotton Bowl was going to be a tough task for the Florida Gators.
But, that doesn’t mean we were expecting what happened in the first few minutes of the game on Wednesday night in Texas.
First, Oklahoma elected to receive and marched down the field, scoring on this Spencer Rattler touchdown pass:

OK, but surely Heisman finalist Kyle Trask would be able to answer that touchdown, right? Right?
In the words of Lee Corso, not so fast, my friend. Florida’s first drive ended with this pick-6, returned for a score by Tre Norwood to give the Sooners a 14-0 lead with 12:22 left in the first quarter:

Yeah, it’s tough to imagine a worse start for the Gators. But, they have the ball again, and there’s plenty of time left. We’ll see if the Gators can battle back or if things get even worse for Dan Mullen’s squad.
