The rivalry affectionately unofficially known as The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party is a special game for everyone involved. Numerous players on both rosters played high school football in the opponent’s state. Few players, however, suit up for both sides.

After playing his freshman season at Georgia, Brenton Cox decided to transfer from UGA in August 2019. Cox transferred to Florida but did not play for Dan Mullen’s Gators last season due to the SEC’s intraconference transfer rule.

Now that he can play, Cox is a starter on the Florida defense. This week, ahead of UF’s game at Texas A&M, he was made available to beat reporters covering the team. Even though Florida-Georgia is a month away, Cox was asked about facing his old team.

“It’ll definitely be personal,” Cox told reporters, per Zach Abolverdi of Rivals. “I just can’t wait to play them in Jacksonville. Can’t wait to get the W.”

In two games, Cox has 1.5 sacks and 3.0 tackles for loss working at both the BUCK position (coached by defensive coordinator Todd Grantham) and defensive end (coached by defensive line coach David Turner).

“It’s a blessing, to be honest. Before this, I didn’t know half of the stuff that I know now,” Cox said of working with both coaches. “It’s good, switching back and forth. Sometimes I go down there with (the D-line) and work on some more techniques and rushes with them. But it’s mostly Coach Grantham.”

More from Cox on his Florida experience so far can be found in Abolverdi’s feature here.
