Brandon Spikes was set to be in The Swamp on Saturday night as a student assistant on Billy Napier’s coaching staff. He’s taking on an extra responsibility.

Florida announced Tuesday that Spikes will serve as the honorary Mr. Two Bits for UF’s sold-out showdown with Florida State. He’s the first active staffer in the 10-year history of the honorary Two Bits tradition.

Spikes told Florida in-house writer Chris Harry that he remembers the late George Edmondson getting The Swamp rocking with “Two Bits” before the Gators ran out of the tunnel.

“The [Florida State] game was always a big one on my calendar,” Spikes told FloridaGators.com. “I’m going to be the guy getting everybody going before the battle. That means a lot to me.”

Spikes played at Florida from 2006-to-2009, helping the Gators win 2 national championships and go 4-0 against FSU. He’s featured prominently in the Netflix documentary “Swamp Kings,” looking back on Urban Meyer’s tenure in Gainesville. Spikes was inducted into the UF Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020 alongside teammate Tim Tebow, who will be honored during Saturday’s game.

Napier dropped his first game in the rivalry last season in Tallahassee, snapping the Gators’ 3-game winning streak over the Noles. FSU needs to make it 2 in a row to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive, while the Gators need to pull off the upset to go bowling.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET in Gainesville. The game will air on ESPN.
