Florida quarterback Graham Mertz is set to re-gain his starting job for the Gators’ Week 3 matchup against Texas A&M, according to a report.

That’s per 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who notes that 5-star freshman DJ Lagway is also expected to see action. Lagway threw for 456 yards last week against Samford while Mertz was out with a concussion.

Despite that strong showing from the freshman, Florida coach Billy Napier will start his veteran signal caller on Saturday vs. the Aggies.

This development is not a significant surprise. Napier said earlier in the week that both Mertz and Lagway would play on Saturday, provided that the former was cleared medically. Mertz was not named on Florida’s initial injury report on Wednesday, suggesting that he’s good-to-go for Saturday.

Former Florida coach Steve Spurrier also weighed in on this topic on Friday, saying he expected Mertz to start the game.

Florida is looking for its first FBS win of the season. The Gators struggled mightily in Week 1 in a blowout loss at home to Miami. Another defeat to Texas A&M this weekend could put Napier’s job in further jeopardy.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday afternoon.
