Former Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel has been promoted from the Houston practice squad.

The move comes after Texans starting QB Tyrod Taylor was placed on injured reserve.

Taylor will likely miss 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury.

Driskel is expected to back up rookie Davis Mills, who will get the start Thursday night against the Carolina Panthers.

A former 6th-round draft pick of the San Francisco 49ers in 2018, Driskel played for Cincinnati, Detroit, and Denver before joining Houston this season.

He has appeared in 15 career games and passed for 2,120 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions.
