It doesn’t seem all that long ago that it was Must-See TV, featuring a virtual Who’s Who of future NFL stars.

A lot has changed at both Florida and Tennessee since those heady days of the 1990s, but Saturday’s annual rekindling of the SEC East rivalry should be a good one for a change.

The Gators have won the last 10 meetings, including last year’s 10-9 decision in Knoxville. Florida has outscored the Volunteers 291-152 during the streak, making for an average margin of victory of 13.9 points.

Saturday’s matchup at The Swamp figures to be considerably more interesting. So here are five players to keep an eye on during the Florida-Tennessee game.

1. Florida QB Will Grier: The redshirt freshman has moved ahead of sophomore Treon Harris in the battle to be the permanent starter, but that advantage appears tenuous. Grier went the distance in last weekend’s win at Kentucky, completing 13 of 22 passes for 125 yards while also running for a team-high 61 yards and a touchdown. His biggest blemish on the evening was a critical interception he threw in the end zone in the third quarter when it appeared the Gators were taking command of the game. Grier will have to be sound in his decision-making as Harris, who came off the bench to spark last year’s fourth-quarter rally in Knoxville, could play and make the quarterback competition a mystery again.
2. Florida DL Jonathan Bullard: The senior was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after accounting for two of the Gators’ six sacks of Kentucky quarterback Patrick Towles for a loss of 21 yards. Bullard totaled five tackles, four of which were solo, and should be a factor again on Saturday against a shaky Tennessee offensive line.
3. Florida LB Jarrad Davis: The junior paced a stingy Gators defense against the Wildcats, recording a team-high 10 tackles and 1.5 sacks. It marked the second consecutive week in which Davis has recorded 10 tackles. His nose for the ball is a big reason why Florida leads the SEC and ranks seventh nationally in run defense at 55.3 yards per game.
4. Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs: The athletic junior is 6-2 as Tennessee’s starter, having guided the Vols to an average of 39 points per game and 431 yards of offense over that span. His ability to make plays with his feet as well as his arm has proved critical behind a suspect offensive line that surrendered an SEC-high 43 sacks last year and six already this season.
5. Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd: The sophomore has already logged two 100-yard rushing games this season against Bowling Green and Oklahoma and is averaging better than five yards per carry. Noticeably bulked up from last year, Hurd has already posted five touchdowns this season.
