Former Florida linebacker Jarrad Davis was selected as the No. 21 overall pick by the Detroit Lions.

Of all of Florida’s talented players, Jarrad Davis could be the best prospect to have a long NFL career. There’s nothing exactly sexy about Davis’ game, but he eats up ball carriers and is a wrap-up tackler who is a good finisher.

When you look back at the Will Muschamp era at Florida, Davis signing at Florida is a major positive aspect of it. Davis had been committed to Auburn at one point, but Muschamp was able to secure his signature during the 2013 signing class. Davis was rated a three-star prospect and the country’s No. 39 outside linebacker coming out of high school.

Once the Kingsland, Georgia, native got his opportunity to become an everyday starter, he didn’t disappoint. He racked up 17 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in two years, even though his 2016 season was cut short due to injury. Despite the injury, Davis was selected as one of five Finalists for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, Pop Warner CFB Award and the Butkus Award.

Davis wasn’t a popular figure on Florida’s team, and he certainly wasn’t a mouthpiece. But he let the numbers speak for themselves. That’s exactly what he’ll do at the next level.

At 6-foot-1, 238 pounds, Davis should have a really good career at linebacker in the NFL. Teams love his character and leadership, and combine the intangibles with the football player, Davis has a bright future ahead of him.
