The Gators once again have a full assistant coaching staff.

Florida’s defensive backfield was coached by Ron English (safeties) and Torrian Gray (cornerbacks) last season but neither coach will be returning to Gainesville in 2021.

The Gators have already officially hired SEC veteran Wesley McGriff to fill one of those open positions and now John Brice of FootballScoop is reporting that Dan Mullen will round out his Florida coaching staff by hiring away South Florida assistant, Jules Montinar.

Montinar served one season at USF as the program’s cornerbacks coach and recruiting coordinator. Prior to landing at USF, Montinar was a defensive quality control assistant at Georgia. Montinar also has experience coaching at Texas State (2016-18), James Madison (2014-15), Alabama (2012-13), Purdue (2011) and Eastern Kentucky (2008-09).

In addition to getting an experienced defensive backs coach, the Gators appear to be getting an outstanding recruiter in Montinar. The Florida native was named 247Sports’ Sun Belt Recruiter of the Year during the 2017 recruiting cycle.

Montinar is a graduate of Eastern Kentucky and played for Naples High School.
