The Kansas City Chiefs are releasing wide receiver Kadarius Toney, according to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It’s not a move that blindsided anyone with the signing of former Pro Bowl wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster on Monday signaling the end of an era.

This comes on the heels of a disappointing 2023 showing for the wideout as well as injury issues that have contributed to him faltering. Toney’s overall performance was not up par as dropped multiple passes that turned into interceptions, as he finished out the year with just 27 receptions for 169 yards with a single touchdown.

If Toney can return to his former first-round status remains to be seem, but things don’t exactly look optimistic as NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero had reported that the Chiefs had been seeking a trade partner for Toney, but failed to come up with one.

The former 2021 NFL Draft selection by the New York Giants totals 82 receptions for 760 yards and 3 touchdowns, also with 119 yards on the ground with a rushing score. Where his next destination could end up being will be something to keep an eye on.
