Luke Heyman and Florida spent much of their College World Series opener scuffling at the plate against Virginia. Fortunately, the bats came alive late with the Gators mounting an incredible rally against the Cavs.

Against Virginia starter Nick Parker, Florida managed just 4 hits and a lone run in 6 innings. Then, the Gators started to chip away against the bullpen of the Cavs.

Florida managed to get a single run across in the 7th and 8th innings as the bats began to come alive. Another run by Virginia in the top of the 9th provided insurance and set the game to the bottom of the 9th inning with the score 5-3.

That set the table for a dramatic conclusion with the Gators wasting no time tying things up. Ty Evans led off the inning with a solo shot and Wyatt Langford followed 2 batters later with a game-tying solo home run.

Langford’s shot was especially emphatic and was measured at 456 feet:

After the game-tying HR, things continued to fall apart for Virginia’s pitching staff. Jac Caglianone singled to right and was followed by a walk for Josh Rivera and a hit-by pitch for BT Riopelle.

Virginia finally went to the bullpen and called on Jay Woolfolk but the table was already set for Heyman. Though he lined out to centerfield, Heyman’s drive was more than enough to secure the walk-off win via a sac fly. Florida’s 3 runs in the 9th inning gave the Gators a 6-5 win.
