Reaction: Florida's offense struggles against Kentucky in first half
The Florida Gators offense hasn’t been as sharp against Kentucky’s defense as it usually is. Mark Stoops has a great plan against Kyle Trask and company.
Florida leads Kentucky 14-10 at halftime, thanks to a Kadarius Toney punt return touchdown just before halftime.
The Wildcats defensive unit has put some pressure on Trask, and that’s caused some issues in the Gators offensive timing.
Even on the first scoring drive for the 56-yard touchdown pass from Trask to Kyle Pitts, the Gators had to fake a punt in order to move the chains with running back Dameon Pierce. They would have gone 3-and-out if not for the faked punt.
Wide receiver Justin Shorter also fumbled on another Gators’ possession at mid-field, and that led to a Kentucky game-tying scoring drive.
Heisman Trophy favorite Trask is currently 11-of-15 for 144 yards and 1 touchdown.
Kentucky offensive coordinator Eddie Gran has also called a wonderful game through the first half. He’s been running the ball, eating clock and keeping Trask on the sideline.
Fans took to social media to weigh in on the Gators offense in the first half:
During the course of the season, there should be some signs of improvement in the defense. Florida has shown zero. Now with the offense playing like shit, we could be in trouble#UKvsUF

For all the angst about the defense, our offense is NOT sharp. Drops, bad blocking in the run game and the shorter fumble.

Trask is off, offense is off . . . Florida looks as though they’re sleepwalking.

Florida needs to wake up early on offense. Just not focused or something

3 and out for our “elite offense”. Stoops owns Mullen

Florida’s offense has run just 14 plays in the first half. This is the kind of game UK wanted. Control the ball and the clock. It’s working so far.

We're talking about the Florida defense and rightly so, but this #Gators offense has been lulled to sleep by Mark Stoops yet again.
Stoops always seems to have a plan for UF.

Masterful gameplan so far. Running game is devouring the clock and keeping the potent Florida offense off the field. https://t.co/WtWGwOI6SQ

What happened to Florida’s offense the last two weeks. They are terrible again. What happened to Pitts and our receivers?

Kentucky got that high-powered Florida offense in jail?

Offense needs more intensity. Guys not winning their battles. Online needs to fire off the ball and run block.
Or maybe…three defensive penalties in a row on the defense.
Christmas is the season of giving!
Struggles? They had the ball for 6 minutes.
Florida never struggles…. They’re are just the greatest…
I would take our offense over Bamas
It’s not like you have a choice…
Sure he has choice. He could pull out his teeth, marry his cousin, and yell Roll Tide at church.
@NASA couldn’t have said it better myself hahaha
We finally get rid of all the Dawg trolls and in rolls BamaTime to take their place.
JoeMarks, you got it right,. Funny why trolls like to live on the Gator page. It’s refreshing to know that the obsession with everything Gator lives on, 24/7.
Yes, and it shows. Our defense was worn down by halftime. Hard to get back up after 24 minutes on the bench.
Meant to reply to NashvilleGator above.
Yes, and it shows. Our defense was worn out by halftime. Hard to get back up when you have spent 24 minutes sitting on the bench.
