Dismissed former Florida WR Justin Watkins was arrested on two misdemeanor counts of battery causing bodily harm and two third-degree felonies for false imprisonment and domestic battery by strangulation in July. He was dismissed from the program by Dan Mullen.

According to OnlyGators.com, it all started when Watkins became angry over a teammate, LB Vosean Joseph, liking Watkins’ girlfriend’s Instagram photos, even though the victim said she had never even met Joseph. He didn’t believe her.

Per the report, Watkins FaceTime’d Joseph and asked him if he knew the victim. Joseph said no, and Watkins responded with, “If you don’t tell the truth, I’ll kill her.”

That’s when Watkins allegedly began his domestic battery. Watkins pinned her down and struck her while questioning her about other men. Watkins then called Joseph back and threatened to “beat his ass” when he sees him. Joseph replied he’d never met the girl. He then allegedly resumed his assault before she finally escaped by spraying him with mace.

When Watkins was in the back of the police car, per the report, he told police that “Joseph does voodoo and has been doing voodoo on Watkins for some time now, causing problems in his life, such as his phone screen crashing.”

The victim did not immediately report the incident due to “Watkins’ status on the team and source of family income being jeopardized.” Her mother convinced her to report the incident three days later.
