The situation with Jim McElwain and the Florida Gators has deteriorated rapidly over the course of the 2017 season.

Even after leading the Gators to back-to-back SEC East titles, it never seemed as if McElwain had the full backing of the administration.

Now, according to attorney and agent Darren Heitner — a Florida alum — the situation may have reached a breaking point.

Heitner tweeted on Saturday morning that McElwain’s agent, Jimmy Sexton, is working hard to secure a buyout for his client and the Gators will likely be making a change regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s game against Georgia:

At 3-3 this season, McElwain’s Gators have certainly disappointed, but it seems strange that the school would part ways with him so soon.

Still, with the recent death threat comments, McElwain is now mired in another peculiar situation and he may have finally pushed the administration past its breaking point.

What happens next remains to be seen, but it does appear a decision will be made soon.
