Ricky Pearsall Jr. appeared in his first NFL game just 7 weeks after being shot in the chest in a failed robbery attempt.

Now, he has his first NFL catch. The moment happened late in the second quarter with the San Francisco 49ers trailing the Kansas City Chiefs 14-3, as Brock Purdy connected with his rookie wide receiver. Afterward, Levi’s Stadium erupted in a round of applause as Pearsall received a standing ovation.

Pearsall, who spent 3 seasons at Arizona State before transferring to Florida and playing 2 seasons there, was the Niners’ first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He went through training camp with the team, but on August 31, he was shot in San Francisco after thieves reportedly tried to steal his watch. He was then taken to a hospital in serious but stable condition before improving enough to be released the next day.

After several weeks of recovery, he was cleared to practice with the team on Monday, leading to him being activated off the Niners’ NFI list on Saturday — clearing the way for his NFL debut.

49ers-Chiefs is on FOX. The Niners entered the game at 3-3 while the Chiefs were 5-0 and the NFL’s remaining undefeated team.
