Steve Spurrier was back in Hoover, Alabama, Tuesday promoting a new film, “Saturdays in the South: A History of SEC Football.” Along with Spurrier, Herschel Walker and Archie Manning were also in attendance.

The trio met with the media, which produced some very entertaining results (here and here). Among other things, Spurrier was asked by Reddit who his Heisman Trophy frontrunners are for the 2019 season, and his answer, while off-the-cuff, was Gators QB Feleipe Franks.

“Heisman?” Spurrier asked. “Not that I know of … Feleipe Franks.”

Franks is entering his second year under Dan Mullen, and the improvement the Florida QB showed during last season should certainly give Florida fans hope entering 2019. After Franks was booed at home, he starting playing with an edge. Franks ran the football with authority, and he started developing his passing game, too.

So, while some will snicker at Spurrier’s frontrunner pick and call him a homer, Franks’ evolution from deer-in-the-headlights QB under Jim McElwain to legitimate SEC signal caller under Mullen has been impressive.

Franks looks poised for a big 2019 season.
