Steve Spurrier names Heisman frontrunner
Steve Spurrier was back in Hoover, Alabama, Tuesday promoting a new film, “Saturdays in the South: A History of SEC Football.” Along with Spurrier, Herschel Walker and Archie Manning were also in attendance.
The trio met with the media, which produced some very entertaining results (here and here). Among other things, Spurrier was asked by Reddit who his Heisman Trophy frontrunners are for the 2019 season, and his answer, while off-the-cuff, was Gators QB Feleipe Franks.
“Heisman?” Spurrier asked. “Not that I know of … Feleipe Franks.”
Franks is entering his second year under Dan Mullen, and the improvement the Florida QB showed during last season should certainly give Florida fans hope entering 2019. After Franks was booed at home, he starting playing with an edge. Franks ran the football with authority, and he started developing his passing game, too.
So, while some will snicker at Spurrier’s frontrunner pick and call him a homer, Franks’ evolution from deer-in-the-headlights QB under Jim McElwain to legitimate SEC signal caller under Mullen has been impressive.
Franks looks poised for a big 2019 season.

That’s funny stuff. He improved last season, but no where close to the best player in the country.
Methinks this was more of a humor moment with a bit of praise for your side than anything else.
I don’t think he had an answer so he just threw his QB’s name out there.
So why not pick a game cocks QB if he wants to root for all his former teams. Ok I know he was a GATOR. Yes I know UGA stood in his way back then. Life goes on!!! I really think Florida has 2 head coaches. Guarantee you Spurrier and Mullen sit down together preparing for the cocktail party!!!! And STILL A BLOWOUT!!!!!! LOL.
PS. Franks is STILL a deer in the headlights when UGA IS THE TRUCK!!!!!
Go dawgs!!!!!

Franks only did good against teams he was supposed to beat!!!! Michigan ain’t SHI?!!!!! South Carolina beat Michigan the year before Florida. Michigan is all HYPE to!!!! LSU basically gave the game away. So which heisman performance are we talking about? Is it the one they lost to Kentucky????
GETTING REAL: Franks is not as bad as people thought. I said that when y’all booed him!!!! But no he is NOT a heisman Trophy candidate. Jake Fromm or Tua maybe Trevor Lawrence or Swift. Those are all legit heisman candidates!!!
Not enough recruits are saying by to LIAR Dan Mullen for my liking!!!! Make me proud and DE-COMMIT FROM THE GATORS!!! Or TRANSFER TODAY ASAP!!! You’ll be glad you did!!!!
PS. I haven’t missed a prediction in 3 years. Florida is heading for a TERRIBLE TO MEDIOCRE SEASON!!!!

You must be new to football. Spurrier was 11-1 against UGA as the UF coach and even went 4-4 against them while at SC. UGA was nothing more than a speed bump for Spurrier while he was at Florida. Nice try, pauper negan.
@LSUMC… This is the same guy that used to post books as a LSU fan, then Vandy fan if I remember correctly… Now he is a UGA fan..
I remember that guy, but this guy seems dumber. Who knows with these clowns. Could be another of corch’s accounts.
Queen dips!t, you’re an idiot and portray your self with an underserved sense of entitlement, you really do take advantage of rocking the stupid persona. At least the other UGA trolls actually troll, I don’t know what you do, I guess your writing a fictional novel or something with all the sh!t you’re spewing, And please next time proofread, I’m worried you are having a stroke every time I read your garbage.

Fromm being talked about as a Heisman candidate is laughable. Unless Smart completely changes his entire offensive philosophy, there’s no way in hell he’s going to put up the numbers to be in the running, especially with the huge unknown at WR. That’s a run first and second team and always will be as long as Smart is in charge. Keep in mind, his numbers weren’t much better than Franks’ last season and he had one extra game to pad his stats. Sorry, but game managers who have never reached 2800 yards passing in their career don’t win the Heisman. As a running QB, which can pad the stats even more, if I were a betting man I’d actually put my money on Franks being a candidate before Fromm, and I don’t think Franks will be one either.
Exactly,, I think he improved,, but the Georgia game for instance,,, flea-flicker 1st play WR 10+ yards behind nearest defenders,, overthrew him by 15yards,, horrible pick… Think he could better this year, but
Can’t fault the kid for being a little too juiced to start that game. Probably should’ve given him a few plays to relax before calling that play. If how he looked throughout Spring practice is any indication of what he’s going to do this season, he won’t be missing too many more of those throws.
