Utah QB Cameron Rising hopes to be recovered from a torn ACL in time to face Florida in Week 1 of the 2023 season.

Rising was injured during Utah’s Rose Bowl game. Utes coach Kyle Whittingham had not previously named the specific injury, only describing it as a serious leg injury. On Friday, Rising told ESPN 700’s Bill Riley on Friday that he had surgery in January for his torn ACL. Brandon Marcello of 247Sports shared the news on Twitter Saturday.

In an interview with The Athletic last month, Whittingham expressed confidence that Rising would be ready for the 2023 season:

“It’s a leg injury. It’s going to be a fairly extensive rehab,” Whittingham told The Athletic. “He will not be able to participate in spring, but we expect him to be ready for the season opener.”

Rising looks to be ready for fall camp and the season-opener against UF.

The Florida-Utah Week 1 game does not have a set date yet. The game is listed as either Aug. 31 (Thursday) or Sept. 2 (Saturday). The exact date will be determined by the Pac-12 TV schedule as a Utah home game.

Rising was 22-of-32 for 216 yards, 1 touchdown and 1 interception against Florida in 2022. He finished the 2022 season throwing for 3,034 yards and 26 touchdowns. After the bowl game, he announced plans to return in 2023.
