Legendary rock star and Gainesville native Tom Petty passed away unexpectedly last week at the age of 66, so it was only fitting that the Florida Gators would send him out with a touching tribute.

However, the LSU band didn’t get the memo, as they started playing at the end of the third quarter, right when the “I Won’t Back Down” tribute began to play through the stadium’s P.A. system.

As you can see below, a couple of Florida fans took offense to the LSU band’s perceived disrespect, letting them hear it:

The LSU band explained the situation on Sunday morning, saying it was simply a communication error.

However, based on the fan in the Tom Petty shirt’s actions on Saturday, it’s probably safe to say that he’s not buying what the Tigers are selling.
