While on Florida campus, top-5 safety cancels planned visit to Georgia
Since decommitting from Oregon on Dec. 11, Avantae Williams has been one of the most sought-after uncommitted prospects remaining in the class of 2020. After the recruiting dead period ended, it looked like Miami, Florida and Georgia were Williams’ final three. The 4-star safety appears to have now trimmed that list to two.
Williams was expected to visit Georgia on the final weekend before Feb. 5’s National Signing Day. While on his official visit at UF, the Deland (Florida) product tweeted that he will no longer be making the trip to Athens.
I’m no longer visiting UGA

The 247Sports Composite rates Williams as the No. 2 safety and No. 55 recruit overall in the class of 2020. He collected 27 scholarship offers during his recruitment.
If it’s down to Florida and Miami, the Gators figure to have an advantage. Former 5-star RB Lorenzo Lingard recently transferred from UM to UF. Lingard is Williams’ cousin and appears to have an active role in the Under Armour All-American’s recruitment.

Williams visited Miami last weekend. Check out his highlights below:
Kirby actually called him and told him not to come. UGA didn’t really want him. Made up their minds about 6 months ago.
Source ????
More than likely it is because Kirby is going after Charles Bell VI and the fact Bell is in Athens this weekend.
Knowing trubluetick…his source is probably Trolls Illustrated…
It was a joke…i was just playing off what some georgia fan would have said
@truevol
My bad. It dawned on me after the fact how much of a Gawga statement that was, I shoulda realized you were joking. That is my mistake.
Respectfully, I feel the same way about both teams. Just my timing was bad.
I’ve been kinda tired of the non Gator post in recruiting stories that downplay our commits. I don’t think any other team on this site has that problem.
I’ll put my sword back in the sheeth now.
It’s the only reasonable explanation
I don’t think a Vol has any place being the first into a Gator story to downplay the possible commit of a top 5 position player. As if they’ve been absent since 2007. Lawd. Lol!! Tennessee has been so formidable that we don’t even consider them a rival anymore. Exit stage left, please…
This is a big get, if it goes down . My DBU is comin back. I wanted improvement on the interior d-line and an upgrade in the secondary. Check and check.
Then I see Gawga fans in here talkng about who they getting instead. Funny, why would Gawga schedule one of the best Safeties for a visit if they didn’t want him? Get over yourselves and lack of anything to show for Febrary success. Sounds like Gawga was mad that he went on his visit and pulled his offer. Makes more sense, otherwise, there wouldn’t be so many sour grapes.
Clearly, we are doing much better than an underacheiver and some dusty SEC also-ran. Keep the love comin. Still waiting for Tennessee to be back. I like what we’re building….
Preach!
Three in a row.
Why Georgia great till they gotta be great? #songaboutGA
#underacheivers #1980NationalChampions.
#thisisnttwitter
yall take this stuff way to seriously
This thread is pure gold.
Not a single UGA fan in this comment section has said that a) UGA laid off pursuit or b) replacing him will be easy.
What the heck is “February success”?
February Success – Top 5 recruiting classes on NSD, no National Titles to show for it. Previously a spot reserved for Mack Brown at Texas until 2006 when he won a title and Gawga lost to West Virginia.
Does that clear it up for you?
Why in the world are you bringing up the loss to WVU?
How long until Corch, TDOW (the g@y one) and KING NEGAN get on here and say that Williams sucks and UGA didn’t want him?
Haven’t seen Negan around in a while. TDOW won’t come here he only goes on negative recruiting articles or articles about 3 star recruits.
I suspect Georgia doesn’t want him. His 247 composite rating score is 5.5 thousandths of a percent below 5-star. Just not acceptable.
Sounds like he (player) doesn’t want them
It always sounds like it’s the player who doesn’t want Georgia, right up until the point they actually don’t sign with georgia. Then of course the official statement on the matter for the historical record will ALWAYS be that georgia never wanted them in the first place and told the player to go find some lesser school.
Heard it and seen it 10,000 times over the decades.
You sound like you’re butthurt and cherry picking random Internet comments from butthurt trolls and trying to apply them to an entire fanbase and declaring they do it for every recruit they don’t get. After Evans canceled his visit to Florida I saw some Florida fans declare UF had backed off him, but I personally would take that with a grain of salt and I also know that not all UF fans would say that.
KS, Actually there were articles written stating that UF did actually back off pursuing Evans after a phone interview with the kid. It might be that he still has not learned to be humble even after UGA tore up his LOI.
If that is the case, it is sad that someone who possesses as much talent as Evans can’t process what should have been a teachable moment.
Here’s hoping the best for the kid’s character wherever he goes. No matter how much I despise any program, you can’t blame anybody for erring on the side of playing it safe with regards to a guy like Evans.
Funny
your right. he is only 4 star.
My nephew has been friends with Lorenzo Lingard for the past 6-7 years. Lingard told him that Avantae cancelled his UGA visit because Coley left for Texas A&M. I guess Coley was the regional recruiter for South Florida.
Interesting
If true, the Coley is still shoving the dagger into the dying heart of UGLY football even after he’s left town. The man should be awarded a medal for his service to America.
Lol how will we ever survive without this kid?? Lol y’all are so desperate it’s hilarious
so we are biggest threat to you? Thank you Vomit
Threat how? You are the people who can’t even qualify to make it to the job interview stage with us. All I have to do is avoid fast food restaurants and no UGLY graduate can ever hurt me.
Dying heart? Oof, there are some painfully delusional Gator fans on this site.
“You are the people who can’t even qualify to make it to the job interview stage with us.”
Gromit you’re a useless troll. You add nothing to this site. The worse part is you seem to actually believe the garbage you spew.
Yeah… Our program will go away if he signs with UF. Really worried. Hunchback has our number.
In Athens they know! #14269
whatever that means lol
Your program went away years ago. Except dawg lovers are so thirsty for the attention you failed to notice all of your rivals have national titles EXCEPT The G. #facts #commit to the G if you don’t want to win a natty.
Big deal. We still beat you three years in a row.
Ah well. It was a long shot anyway. Florida did a good job of prioritizing him throughout the cycle. You can’t get everybody.
It is nice to see us win a few of these recruiting battles. That’s the one area of CDM’s resume that worried me. Especially going against Saban/Kirby/Dano. After living in college football wilderness for much of the past decade this is a breath of fresh air.
key words being a few.
Seriously, I think this is mostly about safety being Florida’s greatest position of need on either side of the ball. There’s an excellent chance he gets heavy playing time as a true freshman, and maybe even starts at some point next season.
Dang, that is an empty room. But I doubt he chose Florida over UGA based solely off playing time. Top 50 prospects usually don’t have to worry about that too much.
Well, the flagship program in his home state is surging and Gainesville is a hair under 100 miles from his home. But I do think the odds of early playing time is a factor.
What a staged, preplanned, stir the pot tweet. Ha! Good one….
I don’t know about Williams’ tweet being staged, but I can see some staffer at SDS writing the headline after finishing the article, hitting the “Publish” button, sitting back and saying to another staffer, “Watch this.”
Inflammatory headlines are their M.O.
1980 was a long time ago, I get it. But 2008 keeps getting further away in the mirror every year.Auburn,Alabama,Clemson,Fla St,LSU are just the southern teams that have won a natty since the Gators did. UGA will win one or more before Gators win another. When that happens 2008 will be my fave number.
You do understand that only one non-Southern team (Ohio State, 2014) has one an NC in the 11 years since since 2008, right?
And your favorite number should actually be a series of three numbers: 1996, 2006, 2008.
Won, not one.
