Gus Malzahn has now officially been announced as the offensive coordinator for Florida State. It was reported over the weekend that Malzahn would resign from his post at UCF head coach to take the Florida State OC job, and now both Malzahn and Mike Norvell have released statements.

“I’m extremely excited to have Gus Malzahn join our staff at Florida State,” Norvell said. “He has one of the most innovative minds in college football and a proven track record of developing elite offenses everywhere he’s been. His offenses have consistently showcased a tremendous running game combined with explosive plays through the air. I’m thrilled to work side-by-side with Gus again as we elevate the Florida State offense back to one of the elite groups in college football.”

Malzahn spent the previous 4 seasons as the head coach at UCF. During that time, the coach led the Knights to a 28-24 record with 3 b0wl appearances. Now, the offensive-minded coach will try to turn around an FSU team that finished No. 132 in total offense in 2024.

“I am excited to be here at Florida State and to help us win championships,” Malzahn said. “It’s exciting to work with Coach Norvell, who is someone I believe in as a coach and leader.”

Malzahn is best known for his time at Auburn from 2013-20. The coach went to a ball game every season and won the SEC Championship in 2013. Overall, Malzahn has a 105-62 record as a head coach in the FBS.

The previous OC at Florida State was Alex Atkins. Atkins was fired in November after the Seminoles lost to Notre Dame 52-3. For reference, Malzahn’s UCF team finished 16th in total offense in 2024.
