Class of 2017 four-star quarterback Bailey Hockman (Powder Springs, Ga./McEachern) announced via his Twitter account that he has de-committed from Georgia.

“First off, I would like to thank all of the coaches and fans of the University of Georgia for the opportunity and support to be part of their program,” he said. “I have decided to de-commit to open back up my recruitment and make sure I am at the best place for myself and my development as a student athlete.”

The 6-foot-2, 210-pound Hockman committed to the Bulldogs back in June. With the coaching transition at UGA, however, it is not a huge surprise that he’s decided to look around.

Alabama was in the picture for him as was Florida State at the time of his pledge. The Crimson Tide has a commitment from 2017 quarterback Jake Fromm, who also is from the state of Georgia. It also would not be a complete surprise to see Miami and former Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt get in the picture.

Hockman is a skilled pocket passer that could fit in a variety of offensive systems at the college level, including the one that new UGA offensive coordinator Jim Chaney uses, so scheme fit obviously was not an issue in the decision to re-open things.

Hockman is the No. 3 pro-style quarterback prospect in the 2017 cycle per 247Sports Composite rankings. He is the son of McEachern head coach Kyle Hockman.
