Just when it looked like things couldn’t get any better for Georgia, Kirby Smart’s program pulled another big-time pickup as former LSU tight end Arik Gilbert is headed to Athens.

This news was first reported by Rusty Mansell of 247Sports.

Gilbert was rated as a five-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting cycle and surprised many when he picked LSU over Alabama and Georgia. Despite not playing the entire season for the Tigers, he opted out late in the season, Gilbert was named to the All-SEC Freshman Team as voted by the league’s coaches.

In eight games of action, Gilbert caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns. He previously committed to Dan Mullen’s Florida program this offseason but later announced his decommitment from the Gators.

If you missed the earlier news, Georgia also landed a commitment from former Clemson starting cornerback and two-time All-ACC selection Derion Kendrick on Tuesday.
