Arik Gilbert, who missed last season, reportedly updates his availability at Georgia

Arik Gilbert is reportedly back with the Georgia team and practicing after he missed last season because of personal reasons, UGA Wire reported.

Gilbert, a Marietta, Georgia native who played 1 season at LSU before his transfer, is a former 5-star tight end, and one of the best freshmen in the SEC when he last played in 2020.

Gilbert at LSU in 2020 started all 8 games in which he played and caught 35 passes for 368 yards and 2 TDs. He was a dynamic threat especially on key downs as of his 35 catches, 24 resulted in either a first down or a touchdown, and of those 24 first-down or TD catches, 11 came on third or fourth down. Showing his versatility, Gilbert started the Alabama game at wide receiver.

Gatorade National Player of the Year in 2019…first true tight end to win the award since its inception in 1985…led team to 2019 Georgia 7A state title — the school’s first in 52 years — with a 17-9 win over Lowndes…had 11 catches for 146 yards in state championship game…five-star prospect by 247Sports, ESPN 300, Rivals and Scout…ranked No. 12 overall in the ESPN 300…highest-ranked tight end in the 2020 class by Rivals…caught 105 passes for 1,860 yards (124.0 yards per game) and 15 TDs as a senior…finished career with 247catches for 3,640 yards (90.8 yards per game) and 35 TDs…also played as a pass rusher for Marietta defense and recorded 6.5 sacks in 2019…participated in the All-American bowl.
