As long as the College Football Playoff rankings remain as they are, it appears the debate for the No. 4 spot will come down Georgia against a Pac-12 team, or in this case, the best one-loss team in America.

That debate was taken up by a panel of analysts at CBS Sports Network. The CFP rankings currently list Nos. 4-7 as Georgia, Alabama, Oregon and Utah.

“It’s Georgia,” Aaron Taylor said. “Yeah, they had the bad loss against South Carolina, but what they were able to prove on the road against a very good Auburn team on both sides of the ball. You can’t name too many players on the defense for Georgia, but they are one of the best units in the country. They play together. The offensive line, through all the injuries, really showed up when it mattered.”

Brian Jones, meanwhile, talked himself into Utah, because of its defense, after he admitted that if QB Tua Tagovailoa wasn’t hurt, he would name Alabama in this category.

“Georgia has some issues on the offensive side of the ball,” Jones said.

Randy Cross, meanwhile, agreed with Taylor on Georgia.

“The Dawgs are unbelievable right now,” he said.

Rick Neuheisel then countered with Utah and said the Utes have only given up 17 explosive plays all season, and six came against Southern Cal. Neuheisel added that Utah QB Tyler Huntley is “Jake Fromm with legs.”
