There may have been the usual debate about where several teams were placed in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. However, seeing Georgia remain at No. 1 is no surprise at all.

The Bulldogs should cruise into the SEC Championship Game with a perfect 12-0 regular-season mark with just FCS Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech remaining. A spot in the top 4 for the first time since 2017 is an inevitability for Kirby Smart’s team at this point.

But while defense has been the calling card for the Dawgs this year, it’s their offense that is gradually beginning to catch the eye of the Playoff committee. Chairman Gary Barta noted as much in his media availability following the unveiling of the latest Top 25 rankings on ESPN.

He gave a nod to James Cook, who took 10 carries for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns against Tennessee while bringing in 3 catches for 43 yards and a 3rd score through the air.

“The offense is in the top 15 in scoring. James Cook had a big game this past week,” Barta said. “(While) Georgia has the best defense in the country, but their offense continues to play efficiently and play much better with each passing week. It’s just a dominant team on both sides of the ball.”
