Charlie Condon already has Georgia’s single-season and career home run records, but the star of the Bulldogs is still mashing!

In his first at-bat of the weekend series against Vanderbilt, Condon went yard once again, drilling his 31st home run of the season to kickstart the action. Condon leads all of DI baseball in HRs this season.

Fortunately, Condon was not alone in his display of power Friday night. Paul Toetz delivered a 3-run opposite-field blast in the 5th inning when the Bulldogs were already leading.

Toetz’s blast made it 8-0 in favor of Georgia, and Slate Alford would add on in the bottom of the 6th. Alford’s HR was of the 2-run variety to make it a clean 10-0 score for the Bulldogs.

Those 3 HRs would deliver all the firepower Georgia’s offense needed, but the Bulldogs also received RBIs from Fernando Gonzalez (2) and Tre Phelps. Georgia finished the game with 9 hits and 8 walks.

On the mound, Leighton Finley was lights out for the Bulldogs while limiting the Commodores to 3 hits and 3 walks across 6 shutout innings. His 11 strikeouts tied the season high for a Georgia pitcher with Brian Zeldin pitching a flawless 7th inning to cap the run-rule victory.

The two sides will be back in action Saturday afternoon at 2 pm for Game 2 of the weekend series.
